You asked

Why does Google Ads traffic convert worse this week?

Paid search visitors land on a pricing page that hides the plan toggle on mobile. 58% of them never see yearly prices.

  • 71% of Google Ads visits are on mobile this week, up from 48%
  • The new ad group sends them to /pricing instead of the product page
  • Organic visitors on the same page convert at 3.9%, paid search at 1.7%

Session replay

Watch the moment a user gives up

Replays rebuild each visit from the page itself, so they are sharp, light and private. Idle time is skipped and every rage click, dead click and error is marked on the timeline.

Rage clicks
Three or more fast clicks on one spot
Dead clicks
Clicks on things that do nothing
Error clicks
Clicks followed by a script error
U-turns

Heatmaps

See where attention goes and where it stops

Click, scroll and move maps for every page, split by device, source and segment. Rage clicks get their own layer, so a broken button stands out from a busy one.

  • Scroll depth shows how many people reach your main call to action
  • Compare mobile and desktop maps side by side
  • Maps update as visits come in, no screenshots to retake

What user behavior analytics is and how to use it

Analyst marking hot spots on a printed page heatmap next to a tablet

User behavior analytics is the practice of recording and measuring how people use a website or app, what they click, how far they scroll, which steps they finish and where they leave, so a team can find and fix the moments that cost signups, sales or retention. It answers why a number moved, where traditional web analytics only reports that it moved.

How it differs from web analytics

Web analytics counts visits, sources and conversions in aggregate. Behavior analytics adds the individual visit: the session replay, the heatmap of where people clicked, the field in a form where they stopped typing. Product analytics sits between them with events, funnels, cohorts and retention. A complete setup uses all three views on the same data, which is what UserExplorer does.

The main methods

  • Session replay rebuilds a visit so you can watch what a person experienced.
  • Heatmaps aggregate clicks, scrolls and movement across many visits to one page.
  • Funnels measure how many people complete each step of a journey such as signup or checkout.
  • Form analytics shows hesitation, refills and abandonment per field.
  • Frustration signals such as rage clicks and dead clicks point to broken or confusing elements.
  • Voice of the user through surveys, NPS and interviews explains motives that behavior cannot show.

Where AI helps

The bottleneck has always been time. A team with 50,000 sessions a month watches a few dozen. An AI researcher can read all of them, group recurring problems, measure how many people each one affects and point to the replays that show it. The useful test for any AI feature is evidence: an answer you cannot check against sessions and numbers is an opinion. Read how this works in AI user research.

Privacy and consent

Behavior data can contain personal data, so collection should be minimal. Good practice is to mask form inputs and sensitive text in the browser, never capture passwords or payment fields, start recording only after consent where the law requires it, sign a data processing agreement with the vendor and choose where data is hosted. See GDPR session replay for the details.

A simple first week

  1. Install the snippet and keep default masking.
  2. Define one funnel for your main goal, such as signup or checkout.
  3. Open the replays of people who left at the biggest drop-off.
  4. Ask the AI researcher why that step loses people, and check the evidence sessions.
  5. Fix one thing, then compare the funnel the following week.

FAQ

Answers before you install anything

What is user behavior analytics?

User behavior analytics is the practice of recording and measuring how people use a website or app, what they click, where they scroll, which steps they finish and where they give up, so a team can find and fix the moments that cost signups, sales or retention.

Microsoft Clarity is free. Why pay for UserExplorer?

Free tools are good at showing what happened in single sessions. UserExplorer explains why across thousands of sessions, connects behavior to revenue, tickets and churn on each user profile, and lets you ask users directly with surveys and AI interviews. Compare them on the Clarity alternative page.

Is session recording legal under GDPR?

It can be when personal data is minimised and you have a legal basis. Inputs and sensitive text are masked in the browser by default, recording can wait for your consent signal, a data processing agreement is included and EU hosting is a choice. You stay responsible for consent on your own site. Details on privacy and security.

Will the script slow down my site?

No noticeable impact by design. The snippet loads asynchronously after your page, records page changes instead of video and sends small compressed batches in the background. You can also record a sample of visits.

Do you capture passwords or card numbers?

No. Password and payment fields are never captured, and every other input is masked by default before anything leaves the visitor's browser. You can mask more with CSS selectors.

How does the AI know it is right?

Every finding comes with the numbers behind it and links to the sessions that show it, so you can watch the evidence in a minute before you act. When the data is too thin for a conclusion, the AI researcher says so instead of guessing.

What happens when I reach my session limit?

Recording pauses until the next billing period and you get a notice at 80 percent. Nothing extra is ever charged. You can upgrade at any time and recording resumes at once.

Is there a free plan?

No. After signup you get a one time demo: up to 500 sessions over 7 days on your own site, without AI analyses. Every plan after that is paid, from $49 per month billed yearly. See pricing.

Can I bring in purchases, tickets and events from other tools?

Yes. Send events, purchases and support tickets through the API or webhooks on Scale and Enterprise, and they appear on the user timeline next to sessions and survey answers.

Does it work with single page apps and mobile web?

Yes. Route changes in single page apps are tracked automatically, and recordings and heatmaps are split by device so mobile problems do not hide behind desktop averages.

Can I cancel at any time?

Yes, from the billing portal in your account. Your plan stays active until the end of the paid period and does not renew after that.

Who is UserExplorer for?

Product, growth and UX teams at SaaS companies, e-commerce stores and marketplaces, and agencies that report to clients with evidence. If you have traffic and a goal such as signups, purchases or activation, it fits.
